Definition

An ARC request (Architectural Review Committee request or application) is the formal submission through which a homeowner asks the HOA for permission to make an exterior change or improvement to their property. A complete ARC application typically includes a description of the proposed work, materials and colors to be used, dimensions of any structures, a site plan or survey showing the project's location, contractor information, and estimated start and completion dates. The ARC reviews the application against the community's architectural guidelines and CC&Rs, and may approve, deny, or request modifications. Homeowners who begin work before receiving written approval risk being required to remove or redo the work at their own expense.
